Perkembangan Ekonomi Indonesia pada Awal Kemerdekaan

Perkembangan Ekonomi Indonesia pada awal kemerdekaan yang begitu kacau merupakan warisan dari penjajah sebelumnya yakni pemerintah pendudukan Jepang, salah satu hal yang menjadi faktor kekacauan ekonomi adalah inflasi yang begitu tinggi. Beberapa penyebab terjadinya inflasi pada dikala itu, antara lain :
  1. Kas negara kosong. Kosongnya kas negara tersebut dikarenakan belum adanya pajak dan bea masuk. Kekosongan kas berbanding terbalik dengan pengeluaran negara yang begitu besar sehingga mengakibatkan kekacauan.
  2. Banyak beredarnya mata uang Jepang yang begitu banyak di masyarakat sehingga tak terkendali. Keadaan ini diperparah dengan datangnya pasukan sekutu yang kemudian menduduki kota-kota besar dan menduduki bank. 
  3. Adanya blokade dalam bidang perdagangan yang berlangsung di laut. Blokade tersebut dilakukan oleh Belanda. Dengan diblokadenya perdagangan laut, sehingga menghambat keluar masuknya barang-barang perdagangan Indonesia.

Dari perkembangan ekonomi Indonesia pada awal kemerdekaan yang begitu kacau, lantas pemerintah berusaha untuk mengatasi keadaan tersebut. Usaha yang dilakukan pemerintah Indonesia adalah melaksanakan pinjaman nasional yang akan dibayarkan kembali selama 40 tahun. Kebijakan ini atas persetujuan dari BP-KNIP.

Pada bulan Juli tahun 1946, penduduk Jawa dan Madura meminjamkan uangnya kepada pemerintah melalui Bank Tabungan Pos dan Pegadaian. Kemudian pada tahun pertama, pemerintah Indonesia berhasil mengumpulkan dana sebanyak 500 juta rupiah. Dari dana tersebut, menjadi bukti bahwa masyarakat Indonesia masih memperlihatkan proteksi terhadap pemerintah yang ada.

Kemudian untuk mengatasi kondisi perkembangan ekonomi Indonesia pada awal kemerdekaan pada blokade yang dilakukan oleh Belanda, pemerintah melaksanakan perjuangan dengan mengadakan relasi dengan pengusaha Amerika Serikat melalui BTC (Banking and Trading Corporation).

Setidaknya ada dua persoalan yang harus pemerintah Indonesia selesaikan, adalah ekonomi jangka panjang dan jangka pendek. Ekonomi jangka panjang mencakup peningkatan taraf hidup rakyat dan mengatasi besarnya jumlah penduduk. Sementara itu, ekonomi jangka pendek mencakup pengurangan jumlah uang beredar  dan mengatasi kenaikan biaya hidup.
