Sejarah Perkembangan Islam di Indonesia - Sejak awal masa Masehi, wilayah Indonesia telah banyak didatangi oleh para pedagang dari banyak sekali negara. Hal ini alasannya yaitu Indonesia merupakan rangkaian relasi perdagangan dan pelayaran antara Asia Barat, Asia Selatan, dan Asia Timur. Seiring dengan makin berkembangnya relasi perdagangan dan pelayaran, maka agama Islam yang lahir di jazirah Arab pada awal masa ke 7 Masehi segera menyebar melalui jalur perdagangan. Para pedagang Arab, Persia, dan Gujarat (India) yang sudah menganut agama Islam lebih dulu, selain berdagang, mereka juga aktif mengembangkan agama Islam kepada masyarakat di daerah yang mereka kunjungi dan memulai sejarah perkembangan Islam di Indonesia.

Pada masa ke 7 Masehi, agama Islam sudah masuk ke wilayah Indonesia. Daerah yang pertama kali mendapatkan imbas Islam ini yaitu Samudra Pasai yang letaknya berada di pesisir Aceh Utara. Pengaruh Islam makin meluas di kalangan masyarakat terutama di daerah pesisir. Samudra Pasai berkembang sebagai sentra perdagangan dan kerajaan Islam pertama di Indonesia pada tahun 1285.

Daerah lain yang banyak dikunjungi oleh para pedagang muslim yaitu Malaka. Malaka memiliki letak yang sangat strategis dalam relasi perdagangan dan pelayaran Asia Barat, Asia Selatan, dan Asia Timur. Malaka menjelma sentra perdagangan terbesar di tempat Asia Tenggara. Akibatnya, agama Islam berkembang pesat di wilayah ini. Dari Malaka, sejarah perkembangan Islam di Indonesia pun dimulai. Islam tersebar luas ke banyak sekali wilayah antara lain Pulau Jawa, Sumatera Selatan, dan Kalimantan Barat.

Pada tahun 1511, Malaka jatuh ke tangan Portugis. Para pedagang muslim banyak yang mengalihkan rute perdagangan dan pelayaran. Mereka tidak lagi berdagang di  Bandar Malaka. Para pedagang muslim lebih menentukan Aceh sebagai tempat persinggahan perdagangannya. Dari Aceh mereka melaksanakan aktivitas perdagangan di sepanjang Pantai Barat Sumatera melewati Selat Sunda dan balasannya hingga di Pantai Utara Pulau Jawa. Sampai masa ke 18, agama Islam sudah tersebar luas di banyak sekali wilayah di Indonesia, namun belum semua wilayah itu mendapatkan imbas Islam.

1. Perkembangan Islam di Sumatera

Di wilayah Sumatera, Islam mulai masuk ketika zaman kekuasaan Sriwijaya pada masa ke 7 Masehi. Ketika Sriwijaya mengalami kemunduran pada masa ke 11, sejarah perkembangan Islam di Indonesia melaju dengan sangat pesat. Hingga pada masa ke 18, hampir semua wilayah di pantai Sumatera mendapatkan imbas Islam termasuk daerah pedalamannya ibarat Batak, Nias, Mentawai, dan sebagian daerah Bengkulu.

2. Perkembangan Islam di Pulau Jawa

Di wilayah Pulau Jawa, Islam sudah mulai masuk pada masa ke 7 Masehi. Sejarah perkembangan Islam di Indonesia, khususnya di Pulau Jawa mengalami perkembangan pesat ketika Majapahit mulai mengalami kemunduran pada awal masa ke 15 Masehi. Seluruh wilayah di Pulau Jawa hingga masa ke 18 telah mendapatkan imbas Islam. Agama Islam pertama kali berkembang di daerah pesisir utara Jawa. Kota-kota pelabuhan di daerah pesisisr utara menjelma sentra pengembangan islam, antara lain Gresik, Surabaya, Tuban, Jepara, Demak, Cirebon, dan Banten. Dari pulau Jawa, terutama dari Gresik dan Demak, agama Islam menyebar ke banyak sekali wilayah ibarat Kalimantan, Sulawesi, dan Maluku.

3. Perkembangan Islam di Kalimantan

Di wilayah Kalimantan, Islam mulai masuk pertama kali di Kalimantan Barat (Sukadana) pada awal masa ke 16 yang dibawa oleh pedagang muslim dari wilayah Sumatera. Di Kalimantan Selatan, Islam mulai masuk pada tahun 1550 dari Demak, sedangkan di wilayah Kalimantan timur mendapatkan imbas Islam dari Makasar pada tahun 1575. Daerah sepanjang pantai Pulau Kalimantan hingga dengan masa ke 18 telah mendapatkan imbas Islam, sedangkan daerah pedalamannya belum tergoda sama sekali.

4. Perkembangan Islam di Sulawesi

Di wilayah Sulawesi, imbas Islam mulai muncul pada masa ke 16. Wilayah pertama yang mendapatkan imbas Islam yaitu Gowa. Dalam sejarah perkembangan Islam di Indonesia, penyebar agama Islam yang populer di daerah itu yaitu Dato’ RI Bandan dan Dato’ Sulaiman. Dari wilayah Gowa, Islam menyebar ke wilayah Gorontalo. Wilayah Sulawesi Tenggara menerima pengaruh Islam dari Ternate. Wilayah di Sulawesi hingga masa ke 18 yang menerima imbas Islam makin meluas. Hanya wilayah Sulawesi Tengah (Toraja) dan Sulawesi paling utara-lah yang belum dipengaruhi oleh Islam.

5. Perkembangan Islam di Maluku dan Papua

Wilayah Maluku mendapatkan imbas Islam dari Pulau Jawa, terutama dari Gresik pada pertengahan masa ke 15 Masehi. Islam mulai berkembang di Ternate dan Tidore yang kemudian menyebar ke banyak sekali wilayah di Maluku. Pengaruh Islam di Maluku hingga dengan masa ke 18 makin meluas ke banyak sekali pulau. Namun, Pulau Seram bab timur dan pulau-pulau sebelah timurnya belum dipengaruhi Islam.

Selain dipengaruhi Islam, wilayah Maluku juga dipengaruhi oleh agama Kristen yang sangat kuat. Penyebaran Islam ke wilayah Papua sudah dimualai semenjak masa ke 17 namun mengalami kendala alasannya yaitu kuatnya kepercayaan lama. Sampai dengan masa ke 18 wilayah Papua belum dipengaruhi Islam.

6. Perkembangan Islam di Nusa Tenggara

Agama Islam masuk ke wilayah Nusa Tenggara alasannya yaitu dibawa oleh para pedagang Bugis dari Sulawesi Selatan dan pedagang dari Jawa semenjak masa ke 16. Adapun dalam sejarah perkembangan Islam di Indonesia di daerah sekitar Nusa Tenggara yang paling pesat terjadi di Pulau Lombok dan Pulau Sumbawa. Di Pulau Sumbawa telah bediri kerajaan Islam yang berpusat di Bima. Di Nusa Tenggara hingga masa ke 18 Islam masih belum banyak besar lengan berkuasa kecuali di kedua pulau itu. Wilayah Indonesia bab timur ibarat Bali, Sumbawa, dan Flores juga sama.
