Peliharaan Atau Piaraan | Klarifikasi Arti Kata Dan Perbedaannya Dalam Bahasa Indonesia

Mungkin penutur bahasa Indonesia, khususnya yang bahasa ibunya bukan bahasa Indnesia, sempat resah perbedaan antara kata peliharaan dan kata piaraan. Mana yang benar antara kedua kata tersebut. Apakah peliharaan? ataukah piaraan.

Berikut ini klarifikasi arti serta perbedaaan antara kata peliharaan dan piaraan. Penjelasan perbedaan  kata peliharaan dan piaraan berikut ini bersumber dari Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia edisi kelima yang diterbitkan leh Pusat Bahasa.

Pengertian Peliharaan dan Piaraan dalam Kamus

Arti Peliharaan

Peliharaan merupakan kata bentukan dari kata dasar 'pelihara'. Dalam Kamus Besar Bahasa Indnesia, pelihara mempunyai arti jaga dan rawat. Seentara itu kata 'peliharaan' merupakan kata bentukan dengan penambahan imbuhan (akhiran) -an. 

Penggunaan akhiran -an pada kata peliharaan mengandung makna, 'sesuatu yang'. Jadi, peliharaan mempunyai arti 'sesuatu yang dipelihara'.

Arti Piaraan

Kata piara dalam Kamus Besar Bahasaa Indonesia digolongkan dalam kata kerja (verba). Memiliki klarifikasi arti pelihara. Sementara kata piaraan memiliki dua arti. Proses pembentukannya sama dengan kata peliharaan yang sama-sama mendapat imbuhan (akhiran) -an. 

Kata piaraan dalam Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia mempunyai arti:

1. (nomina) yang dipiara; hasil memiara;
2. (nomina; kiasan) di luar nikah; tidak resmi;

Berdasarkan klarifikasi arti kata piaraan di atas. Dapat diketahui bahwa kata piara bisa dikonotasikan negatif, yaitu dikala dimaknai sebagai kata kiasan.

Kata piaraan dalam bahasa Indonesia mengandung makna yang negatif sebab lebih banyak dipakai untuk hewan. Sementara, meskipun dalam KBBI, pola yang dipakai yaitu anak piaraan, maksudnya anak yang dipelihara, bukan anak sendiri.

Perbedaan 'Peliharaan' dan 'Piaraan'

Dilihat dari makna kamus, seakan tidak ada perbedaan antara kata peliharaan dan kata piaraan. Namun, dalam penggunaannya oleh masyarakat tutur Bahasa Indonesia, ada perbedaan antara kata piaraan dan kata peliharaan.

Kata piaraan identik dengan 'hewan'. Makara dikala ada yang mengatakan:

Dia tiba bersama piaraaanya. 

Pasti yang dimaksud dengan 'piaraan' yaitu 'hewan piaraan'.

Sementara kata peliharaan meskipun sanggup dipakai untuk 'hewan' tetapi masih mengandung makna lain. Bisa jadi, tanaman yang dipelihara. 

Dapat disimpulkan bahwa, perbedaan antara kata piaraan dan peliharaan terdapat pada penggunaannya di masyarakat.
