Salah satu bahan yang ada dalam kurikulum 2013 yaitu menulis surat dinas dan menulis surat pribadi. Materi menulis surat ini tidak hanya ada dalam kurikulum 2013 edisi revisi 2016 dan 2017, tetapi juga sudah diajarkan untuk tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama semenjak kurikulum sebelumnya. Bedanya, pada awal penerapan kurikulum 2013, bahan ini tidak ada. Yang banyak hanya berbasis teks dan surat dianggap bukan belahan dari jenis teks yang perlu diajarkan.

Kali ini, bahan surat dinas menjadi belahan dari bahan kelas 7 SMP/MTs. Isi materinya mencakup pemahaman terhadap bagian-bagian struktur surat, perbedaan antara surat dinas dan surat pribadi, serta hasilnya bisa memahami belahan surat kemudian bisa untuk menulis sendiri sebuah surat dinas resmi maupun surat pribadi.

Materi menulis surat dinas dan surat langsung juga menjadi bagaian yang tidak terpisahkan dalam pelaksanaan ulangan semester genap atau yang sekarang disebut dengan Ulangan Kenaikan Kelas atau UKK. Sayangnya, buku teks Bahasa Indonesia yang dipakai sebagai buku 'resmi' pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia tidak menyediakan rujukan soal pilihan ganda. Padahal, untuk pelaksanaan UKK ibarat halnya USBN dan UN bentuk soalnya yaitu pilihan ganda. Berangkat dari itulah, di sini disediakan beberapa rujukan soal dengan bahan belahan surat resmi dan surat pribadi.

Adapun beberapa soal yang ada di sini sekadar contoh. Jika ingin mendapat soal yang lebih 'membumi' lebih sesuai dengan kondisi sekolah masing-masing, maka perlu diubahsuaikan wacana pilihan kata, beban materi, dan ilustrasi yang digunakan.

Hal yang paling sederhana untuk 'membumikan' sebuah soal yaitu penggunaan ilustrasi yang akrab dengan siswa. Misalnya, penggunaan nama sekolah yaitu sekolah sendiri. Minimal nama kota yaitu nama kota yang ada di sekolah tersebut. Maka, siswa akan merasa akrab dengan soal dan akan lebih tertarik sehingga bisa lebih semangat dan mau lebih teliti terhadap soal yang dibaca.
